Just got back from vacation to the Big Island of Hawaii! My first trip to the Big Island was awesome and I had the honor of taking a tour of the lava flow with the amazing Professional Photographer Bruce Omori of Extreme Exposures. The experience alone was one of the most fearful and awe inspiring moments of my life. I literally walked over the top of lava with Bruce and I would have never done that had it not been for my trusty guide (I thought I was going to cry with the heat and the fear of falling through the rock into the 2000 degree lava!)! While we were shooting the lava flowing into the ocean I turned around and saw this amazing sunrise and quickly shot off 3 exposures. I had to do an HDR here because I had no time to add my ND Grad filters to my lens. I have not done any HDR's in the past because frankly I am just not any good at them. I used Nik's HDR Efex Pro 2 and I feel it did an amazing job at creating a more realistic image than what I was expecting it to produce. I still love using my filters but I might start using this software a little bit more in the future!
If you ever go to the Big Island please look up http://www.extremeexposure.com and take a tour with Bruce and Tom. They are amazing photographers that know the land, keep you safe, and allow you to get the images you are looking to capture. One of the BEST experiences of my life!!!
